Name a Home Project You Are Proud Of
Creating home is both exciting and exhausting. Right?! Here is a tale of me and my spouse. We were tired of looking at tour crappy, one dimensional but good sized closet. With it’s single hanging rod and random bins on the floor. The piles of stuff on the floor that still need a home further luminated our storage and organization problem. An upgrade was needed but we didn’t know how to or who could solve our problem. As avid DIY watchers we were inspired. We can install a DIY closet organizer!
So, Saturday morning we are full of enthusiasm! We have a plan! This project will take a full day we figure. We clear out the closet, remove the old rod and shelf, measure the walls. We search the big box store for closet organizers, fine one that fits our needs and off to the big box store we go. Get the cart, the stuff is in stock, load it into our car, then up the seven floors into our condo. Damn, we are feeling amazing!
Opening the box we now realize the old holes in the walls won’t be covered by the new organizer so the wall needs to be repaired and painted. Back to the big box store for filler and paint. Home again. Fill the holes, get the fan and go grab lunch. Back home. Sand, prime and paint the closet and get the fan. Put the drawers together. THEN….Read the instructions more closely. We learn we need a stud finder. Back to the damn big box store for the third time! The thrill is waning to say the least but we are in too deep to quit.
We go get the stud finder then come home and screw the main support system to the wall. Bam! We are working together, solving unforeseen problems that come up along the way and laughing and cursing at appropriate times. We were making big time great progress, the thing starts to look like the photo on the box. We were so proud of ourselves! Yes it took three times as long as we thought but by nine o’clock that evening we are sitting back with a beer admiring our FRICKIN’ HUGE first project together! To this day we still have the biggest smile when we talk about that closet.

Take a moment to recall a project that demonstrated grit and creativity. Pull from this storehouse of strength to tackle future issues (because they will show up) at home. You’ve got this Warrior!
